Our Daily Bread
I don't know how many times I said this over the past two years since starting this blog -- the devotional was written for ME today! Yikes!
I loved the verse at the end of the devotional:
A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. —Proverbs 16:9
For those of you that don't know, I sang a solo recently called "Guide my Feet"! What a coincidence! No, it is not a coincidence. God works in mysterious ways. To be frank (and I usually am), I have been a little down this week as some plans my heart made are never going to happen. I sort of knew that you have to go through a grieving process when dealing with things like this, but sort of didn't. I decided that I will take it easy on myself and let myself go through this process (though being a little sad is soooo not my style). The most important things are what the devotional talked about: committing my way to the Lord and trusting God in all things.
Lord, please guide my feet regardless of where my heart might want to go. Running this race in vain is NOT an option.
Foodie Friday
My dinner group is having our first summer cookout on Sunday night. I told them I would bring the baked beans. Well, I can't take just any baked bean recipe. I found this one that I will modify somehow. Take a look.
Five bean casserole
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 pound bacon
2 cups chopped onion
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1 (15 ounce) can butter beans
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans,
drained
1 (28 ounce) can baked beans
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
3. Saute onion in bacon fat; add the brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt and vinegar. Cook covered on low heat 20 minutes.
4. In a four quart baking dish, combine the bacon, onion mixture, butter beans, lima beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans and baked beans. Mix well, and bake covered for 1 1/2 hours. Uncover and bake 30 to 45 minutes longer.
I think I will substitute some kind of sausage for the bacon, maybe andouille or chorizo. I will probably use fresh garlic instead of powder. I will let you know how it turns out!

Let go, my friends! God will be there to catch you and hold you in his loving arms!
Guide my feet, dear Lord. Running this race in vain is NOT an option!
