Never too late

Our Daily Bread
I think we all have experienced it at one time or another in our lives.  Fairness in the workplace, whether that workplace is a part-time job in our teens or our full-time vocation as an adult.  We always compare ourselves to others to make sure we are getting the same pay and benefits as others who do the same work. We notice that folks who have been with the company longer get different, better benefits in general.  Does it always appear to be fair?

Some folks struggle with the concept of "never too late" when we think of salvation, of giving our lives to God.  For those, like me, who gave their lives to Christ at an early age, it can be hard to understand why God allows folks to surrender to him at the end of their lives and still receive the same gift of eternal life. God is so merciful, who are we to question.

My reply to this question/issue?  My life has been better, more complete, better lived because I have had the  privilege of serving our Almighty God.  I started my heaven on earth.  I had the Creator of the Universe in my life since I was eight years old.  How much better could life have been?  Oh yeah, the years that I didn't follow him the way I should have could have been better serving him!

Lord, yes, there are mysteries.  Please help us to have faith and let go of our need to understand.

Psalm Sunday
Sing of love and justice!  So starts Psalm 101.  I love the second verse as well - I will be careful to live a blameless life.  Wow!  Who says that the Old Testament is not relevant today?

Psalm 101

Of David. A psalm.

1 I will sing of your love and justice;
    to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
    when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
    with a blameless heart.
3 I will not look with approval
    on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do;
    I will have no part in it.
4 The perverse of heart shall be far from me;
    I will have nothing to do with what is evil.
5 Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret,
    I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
    I will not tolerate.
6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless
    will minister to me.
7 No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.
8 Every morning I will put to silence
    all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
    from the city of the Lord.

Consistency

<b>Our Daily Bread</b>
Skipping this section today. Attending an ordination service. Please pray for the five folks who are being ordained. Please let us meditate on our commitment to God. May The Lord be with you!

<B>Simply Saturday</b>
<I>Consistency</i>
God has been working on me to be more consistent in my life. Those of you who know me can see I don't have much of a poker face. I don't really wear my heart on my sleeve but it can be very obvious at times what I am thinking or feeling. I feel deeply about some people and situations.

Let us pray together that we can never let people or circumstances steal the joy The Lord gave us. Never.

Self-denial sucks

Our Daily Bread
I have a silly joke with some friends when one of them says something is just not true about himself.  "Dee-Nile is not just a river in Egypt!"  ha!  Yes, I am a silly bear at times!

Let's all admit it.  Self-denial sucks!  ha!  You know what I mean.  Wanting that pint of Jeni's Splendid ice cream.  The big steak at Mitchells.  That beautiful dress that you can't really afford.  We all have our "thing" that we like a lot and have trouble denying ourselves.  For me, it is shoes, pens and technology items.  What is (are) yours?

I really liked the explanation of the Luke 9 passage where Jesus spoke about denying yourself.  Many times we are taught to deny our self completely, including our basic needs.  Wrong!  Here is a great summary from the devotional:
true self-denial means “we must see things as [Christ] saw them, regard them as He regarded them; we must take the will of God as the very life of our being . . . . We are no more to think, ‘What should I like to do?’ but ‘What would the Living One have me do?’

Let's all think about this today.  What does it mean to us?

Lord, thank you for teaching us about your ways.  Your ways are not our ways.  Please help us take up thy cross and follow you.

Foodie Friday
You will have to turn on the oven to bake the "cake" part of this recipe, however the end result is a cool summer treat!

Chocolate Eclair Cake
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour
4 large eggs
1 (8 ounce) package Philadelphia Cream Cheese cream cheese, softened
1 large box (5.1 ounces) vanilla instant pudding
3 cups milk
1 8 oz. container cool whip (you won’t use the whole container) or one batch of homemade whipped cream
chocolate syrup or homemade chocolate sauce

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400. Lightly grease a 9″X13″ glass baking pan.
Eclair Crust: In a medium saucepan, melt butter in water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in flour. Mix in one egg at a time, mixing completely before adding another egg. Spread mixture into pan, covering the bottom and sides evenly. *If the sides of your pan are too greased you won’t be able to get the mixture to stay up the sides so make sure to just lightly grease.
Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown (Mine only took 25 minutes.) You may want to check it occasionally-you don’t want to overcook the crust, it will ruin the cake! Remove from oven and let cool (don’t touch or push bubbles down).
Filling: Whip cream cheese in a medium bowl. In separate bowl make vanilla pudding. Make sure pudding is thick before mixing in with cream cheese. Slowly add pudding to cream cheese, mixing until there are no lumps. Let cool in fridge.When the crust is completely cooled, pour filling in. Top with layer of cool whip however thick you want it and serve with chocolate syrup. *If you want to make this even better use homemade whipped cream.

Transformers

Our Daily Bread
I like action movies if you haven't figured that out from reading my blog.  The series of movies about the Transformers has been enjoyable over the years.  I loved the 3D effects in the last movie!  The next one should be out this year or next.  I think the special effects of the vehicles "transforming" into robots is amazing, especially when several vehicles combine into one huge Transformer!

I thought of how the church should be like that.  We are like the multiple vehicles that join together into something new and amazing.  Something to be reckoned with.  Something for a purpose.  Each part is useful and needed.  There is a central power supply at the heart of the Transformer.  For the the church, that is Jesus, our Lord and Savior.  When praying this week, please pray that your church or Bible study group or whatever worship group you have will join together to "transform" into a group of Christians that will love and serve.  Praise God!

Lord, thank you for transforming us into your vessels of love and mercy!

Technology Thursday
I liked this article a lot.  Check it out here.

Tech Tips: Ways to improve online life, save money

NEW YORK (AP) -- As the year began, I decided I would get serious about digital cleanup — to save money and improve my online life.

For a while, I had been putting off tasks such as backing up computer files and canceling the premium cable channels I never watch. Usually, I'd remember to do something while riding the bus, then soon forget. It took some discipline over a few months to get my digital life in order. As a result, I'm due to save more than $2,000 a year, money I can spend on a nice vacation.

You can do many of these things, too.

— Review your subscriptions and recurring payments.

Are you still paying for an AOL account even though you can get most of its services for free? If so, you're one of about 2.6 million people who pay AOL an average of $19 a month. But, unless you need dial-up access, you likely can cancel the charges. You won't lose access to your email and other services, which have been free since 2006.

If you have a Netflix, Hulu or other video accounts, think of how you use them. Perhaps you can drop the DVD portion of Netflix if you're mostly watching TV shows and movies over the Internet. Or if you still want the occasional DVD, you might not need a three-disc plan if the discs are continually collecting dust on a bookshelf. If you are paying for a Hulu Plus subscription, are you actually using it for viewing shows on mobile devices and other features you can't get with the free version of Hulu?

As for your cable or satellite TV service, are you paying for premium channels you don't watch? I had been.

As I started researching what I'd save by dropping Encore and Cinemax, I realized I wasn't watching most of the other channels either. I ended up suspending my entire cable TV service for a few months to see whether I'd miss it. So far, I haven't missed much and am looking at savings of more than $1,300 a year. I figure I could watch much of what I need on Netflix or Hulu and buy the occasional show from Amazon or Apple's iTunes.

I also reduced my Internet charges by buying my own cable modem on eBay for about $20. Rental charges would have run $3.95 a month, or more than that one-time purchase after five months. After that, it's nearly $50 in annual savings.

Still have a landline phone? Perhaps you can get rid of it if you're satisfied with having just a cellphone. I was paying more than $55 a month for landline service I hadn't used in years. Keep in mind that landline phones are typically more reliable during power outages and other emergencies. My cellphone had some difficulties in the wake of Superstorm Sandy last fall, but I didn't even have a phone to connect to my landline service, so continuing to pay those charges was plain silly. Annual savings: more than $650.

Before you finish, check your credit card bills for any recurring charges. Perhaps there's a gym membership you never use. In my case, there was a credit-monitoring service that I signed up for years ago. I can get a free credit report each year anyway, so I decided to drop the $11-a-month service, saving $132 a year.

My total savings from all this: more than $2,000 a year, even after budgeting about $150 a year to buy TV shows online.

One final tip: If you take advantage of a free trial, such as with Hulu Plus, leave a reminder in your online calendar to check back a few days before the trial is up. That way, you can remember to cancel it if you don't want recurring charges on your credit card.

— Go paperless.

Check the bills you get by mail each month and see which ones you can get electronically. In most cases, you can get PDF versions that resemble what you would have received on paper. It reduces clutter in my apartment, and it saves trees.

Now consider the reverse: What do you still send out by mail? Checks for rent, credit card payments and phone bills? Banks typically offer online bill-payment services for free. You save on postage and unnecessary paper, as your bank fulfills your payment requests electronically. In the rare cases where my bank can't do that, it prints out a check and mails it to the recipient.

I haven't written a single check in more than four years. In fact, I never ordered any when I opened my bank account in 2009. If you need to attach a check to an order form or physically hand it to someone, you can simply have the check sent to you, as long as you plan ahead. That's how I got a check to submit with a passport renewal. I had it made out to "Department of State" and wrote down my address rather than the government's. It got delivered. Not sketchy at all.

If you now pay six bills a month by check, you'd save more than $33 a year in postage, plus at least $7 in the cost of checks, at $20 for a box of 200. On top of that, my cable provider knocks off $1 a month, or $12 for the year, for receiving bills electronically.

While you're on a paper-free mission, you can stop some of your junk mail. Here's a government website that explains your options: http://1.usa.gov/QXIAli .

— Back up your files.

Like flossing, it's something we all know we should do, but often put off until it's too late. With more and more memories and important documents stored digitally, don't wait any longer.

If you have a Mac, turn on its Time Machine function for automatic backups. For Windows computers, you often get backup-management software for free when you buy an external storage drive. That's something you'd want anyway. It doesn't make sense to back up to the same computer, as both the original and the backup would disappear if your drive breaks down.

But what if there's a fire or flooding, as many victims of Superstorm Sandy learned the hard way? Your external storage drive would likely perish as well.

You can sign up for an online storage service, such as Dropbox, in which copies of files get transferred over the Internet and stored at a remote location. However, many Internet providers offer relatively low speeds for uploads, or sending files, so I limit that to the files that change most frequently. You might consider buying a second external storage drive, making regular backups on that and storing it at a friend's place or at work.

In fact, the drive from my 2006 iMac died just a month ago. Although that Mac was too old to have Time Machine, I had just moved the last bits of my day-to-day documents to a Dropbox account, meaning I had copies online. That saved me from at least $300 in charges for the repair shop to attempt data recovery, a process that came with no guarantee.

I'll add the savings to my vacation fund.

worst day ev-er...

Our Daily Bread
I think we all have friends that seem to think that every day is the "worst day evvvv-errrr!".  We sort of roll our eyes and brace ourselves to hear the whole sordid tale.  As we think about it for a few minutes, we remember how many times they listened to us when we said the exact same thing!  It is good to have close friends!

The story today is an amazing one about how a woman was spared from the effects of the horrible Joplin tornado when her husband shielded her from the flying debris.  The husband didn't survive.  In questioning the event, she realized that she was shown an amazing love by that man.  He gave himself for her.

Jesus gave himself for us.  We can't always understand it.  We can't always accept it.  God understands when we question things and how he works.  He made us.  He understands we are just human.  Through questioning, like the questioning of Job during his trials, we learn the majesty and awesome power of God.  We learn to trust and love him more.

During some of my recent trials, I started saying a mantra when my thoughts strayed into an undesirable state -- "Lord Jesus Christ, I love you. I trust  you.  I thank you.  I praise you."  Repeat as necessary.  This mantra is not for God's sake.  It is for my sake to trust God's plan and the way he works.  To love God in every situation.  To thank God to be worthy to be tempted and tried.  To praise God for strength and victory.  You can use mine or come up with one of your own!

Lord, like I have said so many times the past few days: I love you, I trust you.  I thank you.  I praise you.  To you be the glory!

Contrary to popular belief

Our Daily Bread
Some acquaintances noticed very quickly that I am not a typical bear.  A bear is thick, hairy guy, most often associated with gay hairy guys.  I am not a typical gay guy either, contrary to popular belief of what a gay guy or bear is supposed to be like!

Contrary to popular belief, Christians are supposed to be a certain way.  We are to be humble servants instead of haughty, judgmental hypocrites.  Isn't that the big complaint from folks that don't want to go to church?  "churches are filled with hypocrites".  To me that is like saying "I won't go to a hospital because it is full of sick people".  ha!  Most folks who go to church know they need to be there for one reason or another -- I hope the reason is to love and serve God and others!  Let us make that our goal!

Lord, thank you for giving us a reason and an example to serve others!

Teaching Tuesday
How far?
I haven't started reading my next book yet.  I hope to start this week.  It is about the Episcopal church.

I talked with some friends about the topic in today's devotional this week.  The question came up: how far should we go?  Hmmm.  I have thought about this many times over the years.  There is the concept of giving too much and getting burned out.  Some seminary friends called it "trying to draw from an empty well".  Others struggle with not giving enough.

After finishing the book about "enough" last week, I thought about this again.  My conclusion: "give as you feel lead by God".  Isn't that the entire reason for giving any way -- to serve God?  If we are giving for other reasons, like to only make ourselves better or out of guilt or to manipulate people, then we need to take a closer look at our intent.  Which comes first?  The right intent or the right actions.  We discussed that they don't always go hand in hand.  We should do our best to do what we can for the right reasons!

Most of us don't have to worry about giving too much. Well, I guess I should say "I don't have to worry about giving too much".  I am sort of selfish at times.  I can demand things if my needs aren't met instead of trust in God.

The bottom line:  Trust God's leadership.  Give of yourself as lead by God.  Trust God to meet your needs so you can better serve others.  That is a life well-lived.  No ordinary life as I call it!

Real, very Real

Our Daily Bread
Several friends posted about Nic Wallenda, the guy who walked a tight rope across the Grand Canyon without a tether or net below him.  One of my FB friends noticed that he talked to God the entire time.  He accomplished his goal without falling!  Amazing!

I thought this fit the devotional for today -- life without a simulator.  Or, in the case of Nic, life without a tether or safety net!  I know each of us does the best we can to live for God.  What exactly does that mean? Does living for God mean that we are magically granted an easy life?  Does it mean we will never face hurt or pain?  Does it mean that we will be loved by all and fit in with this world?  IMHO, no, it doesn't.  It does mean that we have the God who created the heavens and earth by just saying the words with us.  He strengthens us when weak.  Encourages us when weary.  He sends his angels and fellow Christians in miraculous ways to love and encourage us.  God is with us!

For me personally, God made me with a strong personality and spirit and a tender heart to temper them.  I say more and feel more than many folks.  God also called me to be transparent about my spiritual journey.  This is not always easy either, however, I feel like my whole (and everyone's lives) will all come to light eventually.  When it comes to my feelings, God is teaching me about empathy, acknowledging my feelings and giving them over to him.  There is also the concept of "holding things in my heart" when I sometimes know things before others do.  It is not easy, but God is there.  God is there indeed.

Lord, thank you for making real life real.  You never let anything happen to us that we can't handle with your by our side!

Movie Monday
I saw the movie This is the End last week.  Lord have mercy.  It was a mixed bag of funny, very funny and really odd and stupid.  The setting is Los Angeles where a bunch of actors playing themselves have a house warming party in the new home of James Franco.  Things turn very odd when what is supposedly the Apocalypse occurs.  Lots of fire and damnation.  Lots of people being beamed up in blue light.  Lots of "end of the world" humor as they deal with the last days.  Some of the stuff is so funny. Most of it is really stupid.  Lots of profanity.  Lots of drug use reference.  Lots of stars playing themselves in odd situations and roles, for example, Channing Tatum.  Oh boy...

I give this movie one and a half bear paws.  The half is for the odd scene at the end when some of them make it to heaven.

Dat gum guv-mint...

Our Daily Bread
Have you ever seen the Broadway show Big River?  There is a short song in it sung by Huck's father called Dat Gum Guv-mint.  You can imagine what it is about!  A funny side note is that was learning that song and apparently sang it in the middle of a bar in San Francisco after a night of drinking.  I don't remember it so it didn't happen!

There is a lot of talk about our government and the governments around the world.  I feel sorry for President Obama.  I have never seen a president attacked so horribly in my life.  The Bible talks about our responsibility to the government.  We are to honor it as best we can.  We are to support it via its laws.  And most importantly, we are to pray for our leaders.  And by praying, I don't mean posting mean and untrue things about them on Facebook!

Lord, you established a primitive government system in the Old Testament.  Please help us honor and support our government as a way of serving and honoring you!

Psalm Sunday
Let's look at Psalm 100 today.  It is one of my favorites!  Woohooo!  So much said in just five verses.  I love saying or singing this psalm in good times and bad.  Praise God!

Psalm 100

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2     Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Hanging on his every word

Our Daily Bread
Have you ever been so enthralled by someone that you hang on his or her every word?  You want to hear every word and savor it because of what they are saying or how passionately they are saying it. It is a rare occasion.  Time seems to stand still.  Nothing else matters.  Much like when you read my blog entries!  Ha!  Just kidding!

How often do we think about how our earth is hanging in space solely by the power of God's words?  He set our planet in perfect orbit, a phenomenon we don't completely understand.  Job realized some of these things when contemplating his state of affairs and his God.  We read about it over and over in the Bible.

How often do we think about it?  I try.  I really try especially when things in my life seem impossible.  When I don't feel like I can stand another night in an undesirable situation.  We all have our "situations".  I pray that we all think of the God whose words put the planets in orbit really can work in our lives.  ALL things work to the good of those that love God!

Lord, we often forget the miracle of our existence.  Please help us always be thankful and full of your praise regardless of our circumstances!

Simply Saturday
The Look of Love
I have been thinking about love a lot lately.  No, I haven't met someone new and wonderful to have a romantic relationship.  I am talking about everyday-lovin'-folks kind of love.  It all started a few weeks ago when I had an odd incident with a friend.  I found myself reacting with this feeling of love and concern that seemed to glow from my heart through the rest of my body out through my eyes and face.  I don't remember that happening very often in my life.

Then God reminded me of some times when others gave me that look.  I hadn't thought about it that way.  One friend, who I manged to anger into not speaking to me any longer, gave the look a few times over the years of our friendship.  I long to hear the words from him "To the extent that you need to be forgiven, you are forgiven.".  I remember the look from my grandparents many, many times.  I remember the look from young people when I taught church camp.

So why am I writing about this?  This is my new goal.  To have the heart of love that only God can give.  To let that love flow out from my heart through my eyes, hands and mouth.  Giving the look of love to everyone because everyone needs that.  Giving the loving words that each of us needs to hear.  Giving of my time and talents to serve others.

I still have no clue how to do this sometimes.  That is the challenge.  Every day in every way.  Do the best I can.  That is my new goal.

I want that!

Our Daily Bread
Do you remember as a child or have seen it in a child since you've been adult where a child always wants the toy that someone else has?  "I want that" followed by either tears or trying to wrestle the toy away from the other child.  We all want things we shouldn't want at times!

It is funny and sad how Christians can act like this as well.  Remember the brothers that followed Jesus who asked to be on his right and left hands in the Kingdom of Heaven?  They had no right to ask for any special place!  For us today, we often wish for the speaking skills of a famous preacher, the teaching skills of a respected teacher or the singing skills of a great singer.  We want that!  We want those things instead of being thankful for the gifts and talents that God gave us to use for him.  God provides for all.  He sees each gift equally.  Well, except for me.  I am special...  ha!  Just kidding!

Lord, thank you for providing for us on all levels.  We praise you!

Foodie Friday
OK, I know I shouldn't eat a lot of sweets, but this sounded soooooo good!  And it was!  FYI, you can buy crescent rolls in full sheets now instead of the ones that have the perforations for the individual rolls.  The full sheets work better with this recipe.

Cheesecake Crescent Rolls

2 cans of Pillsbury Crescent rolls
2 (8oz each) package cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 tbs cinnamon or to taste if you want more
1-1/2 cups sugar

Unroll and spread 1 of the cans of crescent rolls on the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish (or 8 x 8 if you want to cut the recipe in half). Combine softened cream cheese, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla. Spread over crescent roll layer. Unroll and layer remaining crescent rolls over cream cheese layer. Melt your butter and spread over top of crescent rolls. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon and the remaining sugar.

Bake for 20-30 minutes in 350 degree oven until bubbly and slightly browned. Drizzle with a little honey if you like. Let cool a bit, slice and eat.  These are great warm or cold!

The Rock

Our Daily Bread
My mother loves the actor Dwayne Johnson, formerly known as the wrestler The Rock.  If he is in a movie, she wants to see it.  Frankly, I think he should stick to wrestling because his acting is not that good!  Just saying...

We have access to the Rock of Ages -- our God.  He is not a "formerly known as" and he knows what he is doing!  Praise God!  We can rely on him for shelter in times of trouble.  We can rest on his strength in good times.  He is there for us.

I have been struggling some lately.  I hope the transparent way I have been sharing these things encourages you to keep on, keepin' on.  God is so good.  I don't always appreciate what he has done for me and how he saves me from myself.  I pray that you will find this peace and strength as well!

Lord, thank you for being our rock!

No pain, no gain

Our Daily Bread
I want this to go on the record officially - I don't like pain!  I have a high pain threshold, so if I am in pain, it really hurts!  Pain has its place in our lives.  It is warning when something is wrong.  It is reminder that we have to be careful!

Once again, the devotional is very appropriate for me.  I have been feeling some pain lately -- both physically and emotionally.  My dentist is helping me fix the physical pain.  The Holy Spirit is helping me with the emotional pain!  Praise God!  We sometimes hold on to the things that cause us pain.  The book I read the past few weeks talked about being thankful in times of pain.  For example, instead of regretting the loss of a relationship, I try to focus on being thankful for not being in a relationship with someone that didn't treat me well.  It is hard to do at times!  Thankfulness through the pain is a great pain reliever!

Lord, thank you for giving us so many more reasons to be thankful than there are painful things in our world!

Not just words

Our Daily Bread
Yes, I know, I am mentioning a BeeGees song in my blog.   Yikes!  "It's only words, cause words are all I have..."  ha!  There is one set of "words" that is the key to life -- The Holy Bible!

There is so much discussion about the Bible.  There are so many folks that try to make is say what they want it to say.  They want it to fit their lives and their beliefs instead of letting the Holy Spirit guide them into the correct way of believing and living.  Taking God's Word out of context or prooftexting is worse than forgetting a word in a Shakespeare play!  Read the Bible.  Rely on the Holy Spirit to enlighten your understanding even if means changing your belief system!  That is what Jesus challenged his followers to do when he was here on earth!

Lord, thank you for your Holy Word.  Please help us use it as a way to know you more.

A life of being, having and doing enough by Wayne Muller - final entry
I finished this book over the weekend.  I got a lot out of it.  It was very repetitive in my opinion, but sometimes this old bear needs that!

One of the concepts that struck me is the spiritual application of the Alcoholics Anonymous concept of "enough for today".  He tied this together with our feeling to "get caught up".  What is enough for today?  What is enough for this hour?  This spoke to me because sometimes I get caught up in the "Lord, how can I handle this for the rest of my life?  Is your grace really sufficient to last that long?".  God spoke to me saying "Well, of course it is, but you just take it one day at a time.  One day at a time...".  I still suck at this after trying to put it into practice the past few days.  I will work on it.  I will trust.

Another section that I really liked was about Acceptance and Gratefulness.  I read this section a few times.  It talked about how it is easier to finally accept some things if we are grateful for the end result.  I immediately thought of a relationship that didn't work out.  I realized that I was grateful for not being treated the way I wanted.  The feelings of guilt, shame and regret started to fade almost immediately.  Another instance came to mind that made me grateful for the way some things turned out even though the path to get there was a rocky one.

I highly recommend this book for those (and I mean me) type A personalities.  I also recommend it for the LGBTTQI community.  We have a tendency to think that we are not "enough" because we have been told that our entire lives (at least the folks my age).  Let go.  Be enough.

Safety gear

Our Daily Bread
I admit that I had to do the walk of shame at Universal Studios Islands of Adventures two years ago.  I wanted desperately to ride the new Harry Potter ride, but nooooooo!  Outside the ride is a replica of the seat and safety harness.  If you can't pull the harness down and snap it in place, you can't ride the ride.  Darn it!  I walked away disappointed and with a new goal -- lose enough weight to ride the ride!  I play to check that out in October!

Fortunately we do not have to worry about that with God.  Everyone "fits" in the safety harness of faith and grace if we choose!  We don't have to lose weight or get in shape, no "works" will open the doors, only grace and faith!  Give you life to him today!

Lord, thank you for our safety gear in this giant ride of a world.  Please help us use grace and faith to keep us safe and useful for your service!

Movie Monday
I saw the movie Man of Steel in IMAX 3D on Saturday.  All I can say is WOW!  I loved it!  It was a very well done movie.  The script was amazing.  The actors did a great job.  The special effects were awesome.  I loved it!  See it at the movies as soon as you can!  WARNING: This movie is darker than the other Superman movies.  It may not be appropriate for younger audience members.

I give this one four bear paws!  That is very rare!  See it at the theater.

You don't have to be a father

Our Daily Bread
"Anyone can be a father a child" is something I heard when I was younger.  I found out later that is not the case.  There are some who cannot father a child.  I think the person who said this was talking about while most men can father a child, many men won't be a "father"!

What does it take to be a dad?  I look to the scriptures and use our Heavenly Father as an example.  He is kind, loving, a provider, give reproof when needed, and helps us grow into the person we are supposed to be.  That is a tall order!  Personally, I will never be a dad.  I will continue being a good uncle (or great-uncle) and spoil other people's kids!  Remember that you don't have to be a father to be a godly man!

Lord, thank you for being our Heavenly Father.  Help us be thankful for the fatherly images we have had in our lives.

Psalm Sunday
Let's look at Psalm 99 today.  It talks about the greatness and holiness of God.  Praise God!

Psalm 99

1 The Lord reigns,
    let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
    let the earth shake.
2 Great is the Lord in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—
    he is holy.
4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—
    you have established equity;
in Jacob you have done
    what is just and right.
5 Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his footstool;
    he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    Samuel was among those who called on his name;
they called on the Lord
    and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
    they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
8 Lord our God,
    you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,
    though you punished their misdeeds.
9 Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his holy mountain,
    for the Lord our God is holy.

Skillz

Our Daily Bread
Popular culture brings all kinds of slang terms and sayings.  One is used to describe someone that is good at something: "He's got skillz!"  Notice the "z" on the end of skills!  ha!

God gave each of us some "skillz" in the form of gifts and talents.  Finding what those are and how we are to use them to build and support the Christian community.  Some can teach.  Some can sing  Some can preach. Some are incredible at serving others day in and day out.  What is your gift or talent?  How are you using what God gave you?

Lord, thank you for the talents and gifts you give each of us.  Please help us find our place serving you!

For Good
I took my mother to see the Broadway show Wicked last night.  She had never seen it before and really enjoyed it.  I saw it for the first time in 2005 and then again in 2007.  The last big song "For Good" always brings me to tears.  I think of all the people that have come and gone in my life.  Sometimes things are said and not forgotten.  Sometimes stuff just happens and we change.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the folks that I know and have known.  May their lives be changed for "good" and "for good" by getting to know me.

No one there

Our Daily Bread
I have a buddy that I tease constantly about his "imaginary boyfriend".  Apparently, only his sister has met this guy he has been seeing for over five years!   Imaginary boyfriend, I say!  ha!  Hey, whatever relationship style works for you, I guess!

An imaginary friend is NOT what God is to me!  How about you?  Do you know God the Father, the creator of this world?  Do you know this Jesus, the Son of God who gave his life for us?  Do you know the Holy Spirit, the giver of strength and mover of hearts?  I pray that you. do.

Lord, thank you for being real.  The Almighty God.  A real friend.  We praise you!

Not for me

Our Daily Bread
I was fortunate enough to go to Hawaii in 2009.  I took a special side trip to the Big Island to see the Volcano National Park.  While driving around the island on the tour bus, folks kept ooooing and ahhhing at the remote resorts we saw.  One of them asked me if I would like to spend a few weeks at one to which I said "If it doesn't have fast Internet access, then I am not interested!"  ha!

I can relate to the author's experience of being without his Internet access.  Please understand that with electricity and fast Internet access, I can work from any where.  The two are my lifelines to work (and the rest of the world).  Like the devotional, I see the analogy to my spiritual life.  The electricity is the power I receive from the Holy Spirit.  Plain and simple to me.  The main difference between electricity and the Holy Spirit is that you never have an outage of the Holy Spirit!  ha!  The Internet connection represents my connection to God and all He has for me (for us). Pretty amazing!

Lord, thank you for connecting with us if we let you and for giving us power through your Holy Spirit!

Technology Thursday
Apple had some big announcements on Monday at their WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) in California.  Here is a summary of their announcements:

iOS7:  It was time for a new vision for iOS.  I think they did a great job simplifying it and cleaning up the interface.  It should be a joy to use.  We will see when it is released this Fall.  It is also supposed to use less battery and memory and handle multi-tasking better than previous iOS versions.

iRadio:  They are releasing a new streaming radio service called iRadio.  We will see how it competes with the market leaders Slacker and Pandora.

New Hardware: No, not the hardware I wanted!  The new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Pro.  The story is the same: more for the same amount of money.  Faster processors and more memory with better battery life.  I would love a MacBook Air, but I am too frugal!

I really want an iPad Mini.  I am thinking about getting a refurbished first generation one, then buying a new one when the second or third generation one comes out.  I have the money saved up.  I will think about this some more...

Never too late

Our Daily Bread
A commercial for an inexpensive hotel chain used to have the slogan "We'll keep the light on for you". It is comforting to know that a cozy room is always available.  Or is it?  Ever stopped at one late at night only to find they are full?  Yikes!

We don't have to worry about that with our Lord and Savior.  While some folks have an issue with the "fire insurance" approach to salvation where a sinner (and we are all sinners) accepts Christ as his or her Savior on the death bed, I personally believe it is never too late.  Who are we to judge?  Yes, we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.  God offers salvation to all.  Think about this.  Pray about this.  I know my life has been better because I know and serve God.  Not everyone has had that honor and privilege!

Lord, thank you for everything to are and everything you do for us.  We praise you!

Recipe for a Godly life

Our Daily Bread
I like to cook. Sometimes I use a recipe.  Sometimes I "modify" a recipe as I go a long.  I sometimes follow my grandmother's approach to "a pinch of this and a smidgen of that".  ha!  The end result is usually edible, but not always!

There is one recipe that is guar-an-teed to be successful!  Incorporating the Word of God into your mind and heart is the recipe for a Godly life!  Praise God!  The devotional does a great job of walking through scripture passages talking about this thought.  What did I learn?  I need to take my time while eating my meals AND I need to take my time while reading and studying God's Word!

Lord, thank you for your Word.  Please help us savor the concepts in our  minds and hearts so we can live a Godly life!

More Notes and Insights into  A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough by Wayne Muller
This book is slowly changing my mind about some things.  I am on page 100 out of 240.  It is very repetitive, however, I find that stubborn old bears like me need that!  ha!

Think about the title of the book:  Do we really think we are adequate in the "being enough" department?  I know I don't always feel that way.

Do we really think we are adequate in the "having enough" department?  We live in a society where more and more is still not "enough".

Do we really think we are adequate in the "doing enough" department?  I struggle with this one, too, because God gave me a lot of things I can do.  How much should we do?  For whom?  How often?

The bottom line so far for me has been the discussion about changing our attitudes and beliefs about enough.  Don't change.  Don't even try. Why?  Because if we allow God to enter our minds and hearts the change will come supernaturally!  Trying to change ourselves only leads to frustration and burnout.

Think about it.  Pray about it.  There is still 140 pages to go.  ;-)  D

Pick yourself up

Our Daily Bread
I remembered a song from my childhood while reading the devotional (yes, another song), so I Googled it.  The song is "Pick yourself up" most notably by Frank Sinatra.  Interpreted VERY loosely, you can get a religious message out of the song!

The devotional takes the "pick yourself up" approach in a little different direction in the quote from C.S. Lewis "but always to pick yourself up again and ask forgiveness.”  Keep on!  Did you hear that, Duanebear?  Keep on!  Did you hear that my friends?  Keep on!  As usual, I needed to hear this message today.  Thank God for the timeliness.  I hope it means as much to you!  Keep on!

Lord, thank you for encouragement and forgiveness.  Please help us keep on for you!

Movie Monday
There weren't any new movies that I wanted to see last week, so I watched some in my home theater -- Stealth and Riddick.

Stealth
I streamed Stealth over the Crackle free service.  It has commercials every fifteen minutes or so, but the movies are free.  They don't have a great selection, but there were some good ones out there.  Stealth is one that I didn't see at the movies.  It is about three stealth fighter pilots that deal with an unmanned plane.  I found it very cool.  See it if you can.

Riddick
I admit it.  I only watched this movie because Vin Diesel is in it!  They are finally releasing the third movie in this trilogy later this year.  I wanted to remember all the details.  The first movie was Pitch Black.  This movie had lots of action and interesting characters.  Vin is super in this action role and saves the day!

Do what I say...and what I did

Our Daily Bread
Did you ever have this conversation with your parents when you were a teen? "Why do I have to do that?"  "Because I said so!"  Yup, me too!  And I was  good boy!  ha!

One of the things I like the best about being a Christian is that we know there is a very good reason for each thing God tells us to do -- because it is the best thing for us!  AND, we know that Jesus gave us the perfect example of doing God's will when he was on earth -- he did everything he was supposed to do because he knew it was the best thing for us!  Leading my example.  It is not just "Because I said so!".  Praise God!

Lord, thank you for being our example and friend and guide!  We thank you and praise you!

Psalm Sunday
This is a "good one" as we think of the psalms!  Being a singer, I especially like it!  If you can't sing, then shout to the Lord or play the harp or blast a ram's horn -- do something to praise the Lord!

Psalm 98

A psalm.

1 Sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has made his salvation known
    and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love
    and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
    the salvation of our God.
4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
    burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the Lord with the harp,
    with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
    shout for joy before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
    let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the Lord,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.

All the same

Our Daily Bread
You never know what to believe when you older.  By older I mean like ten years old!  ha!  I remember my family telling me that my belly button was where God poked me to see if I was "done"!  ha!  One thing that I always remembered from my early days in Sunday School -- God created us all for a purpose!

Yes, we are all created by God.  Each person created for a specific reason and purpose.  It is up to us to determine that purpose!  I know I often wonder what mine is!

I pray that each of us find our purpose under God and live it out to our fullest!

Finding balance
As I mentioned on Tuesday, I started reading a new book about "enough".  I have been thinking about balance this week.  Specifically, I mean having balance in my life when it comes to doing stuff for others and doing stuff for myself.  Here are some examples.

Movies:  Some friends wonder why I go to the movies so much.  I am not "justifying" my choice, just saying how I feel here.  I rarely watch TV.  I don't go out much.  Movies are my relaxation.  I can see a movie by myself or with others.  I intend to spend more time in prayer and Bible study each week than watching movies.  I don't always accomplish this goal.  ;-(

Exercise: I like to exercise, especially since I wasn't allowed to exercise for almost four years due to health issues.  I find exercising relaxes me (though I get more tired than energetic afterwards).  I also find the health benefits very good for me.  I will continue balancing too much with enough...

Doing things for others: This is my biggest struggle right now.  I know how to do stuff.  I can make time to do things for others.  I have a tendency to do too much for others and not meet my own needs.  I am praying about this to find balance.  There are so many needs.  I know one person can't fill them all.  I need to figure out what is "enough".

As I write this, I realize how much I need to finish this book.  I need/want to change my life from a "all in" type of bet to a "long-term" relationship type of approach.  Being "all in" often leaves me burnt out and feeling alone.  The long-term approach is healthier and reduces the chance of burn out.

What are you feeling?  What is enough?  What is God saying to you? I pray you listen and continue your walk.

Filling

Our Daily Bread
You may have seen the silly commercial: A shark approaches a swimmer lounging in a inner tube.  From the shark's point of view, the swimmer looks like a Hostess chocolate cupcake.  After he takes a big bite, he disppointedly asks "Where's the creamy filling?"  ha!

I figuratively look at what's inside me at times, like when I read the devotional this morning.  Instead of looking for a "creamy filling", I am looking for a filling of God's Word and the Holy Spirit!  A heart and life filled with these things can't help but to spill over into the way we treat people and sharing God's love!

Lord, thank you for changing us for the better when we let you permeate our insides!

Foodie Friday
Review: Black Creek Bistro
I had a meeting at AWOL on Tuesday, so I decided to get there early so I could have an appetizer at the Black Creek Bistro.  I couldn't help myself when I saw the specials for the evening.  I had to have supper!  The chicken dish was a stuffed chicken breast atop a pool of spicy tomato sauce.  What a great taste combination!  The spicy potatoes were great.  Even the squash had a nice taste, though I wish I would have eaten that first before I had all the spices..

AND, for dessert, they had a chocolate-cayenne creme brulee!  Wow!  I will definitely go back soon!

A follower be

Our Daily Bread
Have you ever met a man or woman that you would follow any where?  I don't mean a physical attraction or romantic interest.  I am talking about a true leader that inspires you to follow their leadership.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was one of those folks.  He didn't just tell his people what to do.  He lead them by example.  What an example he was!

Whenever you have doubts or it seems like your prayers are not being answered, remember our Lord and his life here on earth. He lead by example.

Lord Jesus, thank you for leading us into righteousness if we will just follow!

Technology Thursday
Six Ways your Technology Manners Need Improving
I admit it.  I am guilty.  I will work on it.  How about you?

 As part of this week's National Business Etiquette Week, the Protocol School of Washingtonoffers several tips for improving business etiquette around the office.

Be all in: Employees should pay attention in business settings and not place their smartphone or tablet on the table. In addition, the phone should be turned off before going into a meeting, dining room or networking event. For those expecting an important call, make sure the phone is on vibrate, alert people beforehand and then excuse yourself when you get the call.

Don't text and talk: Texting while talking to someone says you're not interested in the other person and that can be a deal-breaker, resulting in the loss of a potential client or valued vendor.  If texting is a must, excuse yourself and find an isolated spot to work.

Email etiquette: Busy people get upward of 200 work emails a day and need time to respond. Allow 24 to 48 hours for a reply and give people the benefit of the doubt. If they don't respond, perhaps the email inadvertently went to the person's junk mail box.  It's also time-consuming to open and read unnecessary emails.  Don't hit "reply all" unless it's absolutely necessary everyone listed needs to read the reply.

Keep voice messages short: Good communicators get to the point quickly. Aim for a voice mail message that is no longer than 30 seconds. It is important to state your name clearly and confirm the phone number you prefer they call.

Choose the right communication: E-mailis the preferred method of communication because it's easily accessible, but don't be afraid to ask someone if they prefer texting.  Of course, a difficult conversation requires picking up the phone or, better yet, talking in person.

Keep private conversations private: Don't talk on the phone while in the restroom or hallway — you never know who may overhear you.  Additionally, since you never know who may be within earshot, don't talk about sensitive work issues when eating out with friends or family.

cha-cha-changes...

Our Daily Bread
Yes, some more songs came to mind when I read the devotional this morning.  Changes by David Bowie and Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson came to mind.  Wow, what a wide range of musical taste!  ha!

The lyrics to Changes don't make much sense to me except for the part where the singer talks about the need to change.  I followed this thought with the Man in the Mirror song because I see areas in my life whenever the Holy Spirit holds up its spiritual mirror to my life!  Cha-cha-cha-changes for the man in the mirror!  Not just changes in behavior that I know I need to make, but changes to my heart that will drive long-term changes to my thoughts and behavior!  Praise God!

Lord, thank you for changing us if we turn our lives over to you!  Change, for your sake, is a good thing!

Wellness Wednesday
5 Biggest Mistakes People Make With Food And Exercise
I found this article the other day because I am struggling with  my eating and exercise lifestyle right now.  Whew...  I don't make very many of these mistakes, but I learned a couple of things. How about you?  You can click on the title of the article above to read the whole thing.

Eating Too Little Fat
Despite my recommendations to include good fats at every meal, like avocado, nuts, seeds and coconut oil, some of my clients remain fat phobic, and will scale back, fearing that fat is "fattening." But the truth is, getting enough fat is a smart strategy for both sports nutrition and weight control, because fat: delays stomach emptying, so you feel fuller longer; increases satiety, to shut off hunger hormones; boosts antioxidant absorption, which in emerging research is related to leanness; and ups metabolic rate, to help you burn more calories.

Using A Sports Drink When You Really Don't Need One
If you sweat heavily, work out for more than 90 minutes, or exercise in hot, humid conditions, reaching for a sports drink rather than plain water is a smart way to keep hydrated, stay fueled and replace the electrolytes lost in sweat. But if you're exercising for less than an hour and a half, in a climate-controlled gym, plain water should be fine.  NOTE: I drink PowerAde Zero that helps replenish me, but doesn't have the carbs!

Not Eating After A Workout Because You're Afraid To "Eat Back" What You've Burned
While it's true that overcompensating for a workout by eating too much can prevent you from shrinking your fat cells, striking the right balance is key. Working out takes a toll on your body, and having the right raw materials to heal and repair the wear and tear is important for seeing results. In other words, it's not just the training itself, but the healing from the training, that mends muscles, boosts metabolism and makes you more toned and fit.  NOTE: Try to eat 30 - 45 minutes after your workout!

Only Eating Protein Post Workout
While protein is a key recovery nutrient, it's only one piece of the puzzle. In addition to a lean protein source, like a smart phone-sized portion of fish or chicken or a scoop of lentils, you should aim for plenty of produce (to replenish nutrients and supply antioxidants), a healthy fat source (which also helps muscles heal and optimizes circulation), a small serving of a whole grain, like wild rice or quinoa (to replete glycogen, the carbohydrate stored in muscle tissue, which serves as a primary fuel source during exercise) and of course fluid, preferably good old H2O (to rehydrate).

Doubling Up On Recovery Meals
For my pro athlete clients, I highly recommend eating something like an all natural bar or shake within 30 minutes of the end of a game or a tough training session whenever possible, because starting the recovery process within a half hour has been shown to help maximize healing. But employing this strategy if you're not a pro can wind up working against you.

Gotta tell somebody

Our Daily Bread
Yes, another song reference from my college days!  Gotta tell somebody by Don Francisco was one of his signature songs (along with He's Alive!).  The point of today's devotional is "when will we realize that we need to get to this point in our lives as well?"  I gotta tell somebody!

The examples in the devotional are priceless.  An 80 year old man who has never been more excited to know and share Christ.  The apostle Paul who writes about knowing and sharing Christ in Philippians.  Is that the kind of relationship we have with Christ?  What are we doing to move closer to him?

Gotta tell somebody, gotta tell somebody, what Jesus did for me!

Lord, thank you for giving us so much!  Please help us tell others!

How much is "enough"?  That is the question and hopefully the answer in this book!  I read about a quarter of it on Sunday.  It starts by asking questions about why we do things.  About our motivations.  About being satisfied with ourselves and our lives.  It also talks about how difficult this is in our culture where more is good and more is never enough!

I will write more about it next week.  Be thinking about "enough" this week.  But not too much!  ha!

If we’re gonna pray about it
There’s no use in worrying
If we’re gonna worry about it
Why are we praying
Just leave it in the hands of the Father
Leave it in the hands of the Healer
Leave it in the hands of Jesus
And walk away

Always pushing

Our Daily Bread
There is a silly version of the "Footprints" story where the pilgrim asked Jesus "I see the two sets of foot prints become one set.  That is where you were carrying me.  What are the other marks in the sand beside the footprints?"  Jesus said "That is where I was dragging you..."  ha!  Don't you feel that way sometimes?  Like God is just dragging you along with you kicking and screaming like a little kid in a toy store?  ha!

I learned a new word today: goad.  I have heard it for  years, but misunderstood the word's pronunciation and meaning.  I thought folks were saying "goating".  DOH!  Goad can be a noun or a verb.  The noun means a pointy stick used for driving cattle.  The verb means to provoke or annoy (someone) so as to stimulate some action or reaction.  Both definitions are from the Google Dictionary.

Apparently, goading is my calling.  ha!  Friends see it on my Facebook page as I consistently encourage folks to "do something today!"  I can sometimes be more annoying than provocative, even to the point of causing relationship issues.  I ask God to help me do this in a more loving way, an encouraging and challenging way instead of annoying!

Lord, thank you for being our loving leader.  We praise you for sometimes goading us to be more like you!

Movie Monday
I got to see two movies this week: Hangover 3 and Now you see me.

Hangover 3
If you liked the first two Hangover movies, you will probably be disappointed with this installment.  I felt it was slow and not very funny overall.  With that being said, there were a couple of scenes that I called "pee-your-pants" funny!  I don't think they were worth the price of admission even though I saw a cheap matinee!  I hope this is the last one.  I won't see any more of them...

I give this movie one bear paw for the few very funny scenes.  This would have been funnier if I had been watching it at home with lots of liquor in me.

Now you see me
I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would!  It was cleverly written.  The ensemble cast worked quite well together.  I mainly sent to see it because Mark Ruffalo is in it!  Unfortunately, there weren't any shirtless scenes like in The Avengers.  Darn it!  I liked the twists and turns in the story line.  It was definitely worth watching!

I give this movie two bear paws.  Not a must see, but it was fun to watch.

Show, don't just tell

Our Daily Bread
I love the Show and Tell stories I hear from my teacher friends.  Kids bring in the funniest things!  Adults can also do Show and Tell -- at work after a long weekend, posting pictures on Facebook, etc.

The devotional talks about "Show, don't tell" while describing how to write a story.  I write documentation at work that tells folks how to do something, like install and configure a server.  Jesus did something much more important and useful -- he taught us how to live by example!  Yes, folks wrote down his words (telling), but he also showed us how to live.  Wow!  The Great Teacher indeed!

Lord, thank you for the example of your life!  We can see how we are supposed to live by the example you gave us!

Psalm Sunday
I love the psalms!  Psalm 97 is a great example of one.  Read it out loud and praise our God!

Psalm 97

1 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
    let the distant shores rejoice.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
3 Fire goes before him
    and consumes his foes on every side.
4 His lightning lights up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.
5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.
6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all peoples see his glory.
7 All who worship images are put to shame,
    those who boast in idols—
    worship him, all you gods!
8 Zion hears and rejoices
    and the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments, Lord.
9 For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.
10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
    and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light shines on the righteous
    and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
    and praise his holy name.

Say it, Say it!

Our Daily Bread
Yes, I like movies.  Sometimes good movies.  Sometimes no so good movies.  The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the no so good movies that I really like.  I enjoy seeing it along with folks acting out the parts and the audience interacting with the movie.  My favorite line is "say it, say it!".  ha!

I feel like I need audience encouragement sometimes when I speaking out for God.  "Say it, Duane, Say it!" encouragement when I have the opportunity to share Christ just might get me over the hump!  ha!  As outgoing as I am (and some of you are too), we shouldn't need that kind of encouragement!  Just say it!

Lord, thank you for gifts of all kinds.  Please help all of us share the gift of Christ with your encouragement and guidance!

Relationships
I had some relationship challenges this past week.  I finally had to admit to myself that I am the problem.  I can overreact at times.  I can speak out when I should be quiet.  I can say things that can encourage the weak or break the strong.  In short, I can have some influence over people.  I am not sure why.

What I learned is that I have to be careful, even more careful than what I ever imagined before in my life.  I will think and pray about this more and more the next few months.  I will figure it out.  I will not let it change who I am, rather let it refine my personality to be more like Christ.

Once again, I share these things to encourage you to look inside yourself.  Allow God to show you ways to be more like him.  It is worth the journey!  Praise God!
