You don't have to be a father

Our Daily Bread
"Anyone can be a father a child" is something I heard when I was younger.  I found out later that is not the case.  There are some who cannot father a child.  I think the person who said this was talking about while most men can father a child, many men won't be a "father"!

What does it take to be a dad?  I look to the scriptures and use our Heavenly Father as an example.  He is kind, loving, a provider, give reproof when needed, and helps us grow into the person we are supposed to be.  That is a tall order!  Personally, I will never be a dad.  I will continue being a good uncle (or great-uncle) and spoil other people's kids!  Remember that you don't have to be a father to be a godly man!

Lord, thank you for being our Heavenly Father.  Help us be thankful for the fatherly images we have had in our lives.

Psalm Sunday
Let's look at Psalm 99 today.  It talks about the greatness and holiness of God.  Praise God!

Psalm 99

1 The Lord reigns,
    let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
    let the earth shake.
2 Great is the Lord in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—
    he is holy.
4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—
    you have established equity;
in Jacob you have done
    what is just and right.
5 Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his footstool;
    he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    Samuel was among those who called on his name;
they called on the Lord
    and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
    they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
8 Lord our God,
    you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,
    though you punished their misdeeds.
9 Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his holy mountain,
    for the Lord our God is holy.
