Blue skies

Our Daily Bread
Yes, the old song Blue Skies talks about how the grey skies turned to blue and there will only be blue skies from now on.  I always liked that song until I thought about it in context of today's devotional.  I realized that in those blue skies, we need clouds for things to work right on earth!

I never thought about how the clouds reflected God.  Yes, I have done the "lay on your back in the yard and look at clouds" thing.  I guess I don't do it enough nowadays to really appreciate some of the things that God put on (or above) the earth.  Thinking about the complexity --- and simplicity of clouds is yet another testament to the glory of God!

And yes, we need "clouds" in our lives as well.  Blue skies all the time sounds like a good thing, but it is a variety of experiences in our lives that truly helps us grow and trust God even more!

Lord, thank you for clouds -- the ones above us and the ones that we overcome through our faith in you!

Foodie Friday
I made this for my Bible study class on Tuesday.  It was spicy!  As a healthy touch, I took carrots, celery and broccoli for dipping.  You can also use your favorite pita chips!  Here is a funky idea for you: use this hummus as the filling in deviled eggs topped off with a little paprika.  Your friends will get a surprise when they bite into one!

Spicy Three Pepper Hummus
Ingredients
2 (16 ounce) cans of garbanzo beans
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/8 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons tahini
8 cloves garlic, minced
2 slices jarred jalapeno pepper chopped
1 teaspoon liquid from the jar of jalapeno peppers
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 ½ teaspoons cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon ground cumin
¾ teaspoon dried oregano

Directions
1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the garbanzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, jalapeno, and juice from the jalapeno jar.  Season with black pepper, cayenne, cumin and oregano.
2. Mix using the whisk attachment on low speed until the ingredients start to blend, then turn the speed to medium, and blend to your desired consistency.  Cover and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to blend.  Make sure your container is sealed well, or your refrigerator will smell like garlic.

I actually used my food processor to mix everything because the stand mixer didn’t work for me!
