Shiny, Part 2

Our Daily Bread
If you haven't figured it out, I love to joke around with my family, friends and often complete strangers!  ha!  One joke involves the title of today's entry.  A few friends (and me sometimes) will stop in mid-sentence and change topics.  We all laugh and say "Shiny!", which means we stay on topic until something shiny and new catches our attention!  ha!  The shiny object always wins!

I entitled this blog entry Shiny, Part 2.  Yesterday, I wrote about the Children of God being "shiny" for God.  You might notice that the first paragraph is copied from that entry!  Maybe not!  I want to re-purpose that intro for today's devotional.  Too many times an earthly shiny object comes along and distracts us from the things that God has for us to do.  Shiny!  What?!?  The earthly shiny object could be a job.  It could be a sport or two.  It could be TV.  It could be some other thing that you enjoy, but shouldn't spend that much time or money doing.  They are distractions that keep us from pursuing our relationship with God.  I am continuously adjusting my schedule to make time for the things I need to do.  I need to do a better job of it to be sure!  More time to pray and meditate is my next goal!

Lord, please help us stay focused on you and not be distracted by the shiny object of the moment!

Movie Monday
I saw the movie Riddick: Rule the Night on Friday after work.  I have been waiting for this movie for several months.  I watched the two previous Riddick movies at home in preparation.  Did I build it up too much in my silly bear head?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  The story is very similar to the first movie, except it happens after the second movie in chronological order (I wondered about that).  He is marooned on a desolate planet with lots of perils and monsters.  Lots.  He is pursued by bounty hunters.  You will have to see the movie to get the ending!  In general, I thought the movie was too slow, however the action scenes made up for it.  They were pretty awesome.

I give this movie two bear paws.  I saw it on IMAX.  It was awesome.
