Our Daily Bread
I consider myself a hard worker. My coworkers notice that I have different standards than most folks. One said recently "Not everyone is as driven as you to get things done" or something like that. It is true. I wish I could honestly say I was following the point of today's devotional. ;-(
The devotional talks about working for the glory of God. Hmmmmm. I usually think about impressing my management or coworkers or others. I don't always represent God well at work, I am ashamed to say. When I mentioned to a coworker that I used Bible verses as my passwords, he looked at my incredulously. I said "Imagine what I would be like if I didn't?" Yikes! Yes, I am duly reminded that all I do should be for the glory of God including my job and the way I interact with my coworkers (especially when they don't do their jobs...).
Lord, you give us strength and skills and knowledge to do our jobs. Please help us do them to glorify you!
Movie Monday
Yes, the days of summer are winding down. I got to see three movies last week (one of them twice).
The Grandmaster
This is a movie about the grandmaster that eventually brought his style of Kung Fu to the West. He taught Bruce Lee all he knew! It was a very interesting story with great fight scenes. My only problem with the movie is the love story subplot. It was odd to me and overwrought. I might be overly critical, I admit!
I give this one two bear paws. Nice movie. You can rent this one unless you want to see the awesome fight scenes on the big screen.
Lee Daniel's The Butler
OK, I have to say this is the best movie I have seen in 2013. I was very impressed with the writing (an "inspired by" story), the acting and the recreation of the periods. The story is about a black man who eventually becomes a long-time butler in the White House. He served seven presidents during his tenure. It is an amazing story, so watch it and see. I don't want to ruin it for you with more details.
I give this movie four bear paws. See it. Now.
The World's End
This is the third movie in a trilogy: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The World's End has the same core actors with some interesting twists like the first two. It has some horrendously funny and surprising spots, but is a little slow at times. A friend that saw the first two said "this one is better than Hot Fuzz, but not as good as Shaun of the Dead". I agree.
I give this one two bear paws. You can rent this one.
