Our Daily Bread
I was talking to a new friend a few months ago. He is straight. I am not. As we talked about many topics over the course of two evenings riding a transportation van, we started talking about dating. After a few quips and quotes and stories, I told him: "Use this line, but only if you mean it. 'I am honest and emotionally available'" He thought about it for a minute and agreed that it was a great saying, but only if you meant it!
The devotional reminded me of the many times that I am not "available" to others. I think we all use the excuse "I am soooo busy, I can't fit in even one more activity!". We often let our misaligned priorities keep us from helping and blessing others and ourselves! Will we be there for our friends and families and even the strangers that God wants us to serve?
I am reminded of a song called Lead Me by Sanctus Real
I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames, I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling, but on the inside
Oh, I can hear her saying
Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?
Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone
I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They're just children from the outside
I'm working hard, I tell myself they'll be fine
They're independent, but on the inside
Oh, I can hear them saying
[From: http://www.elyrics.net]
Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?
Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone
So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I'm called to be
Oh Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won't You lead me?
To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can't
Don't want to leave them hungry for love
Chasing things that I could give up
I'll show them I'm willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me 'cause I can't do this alone
Father, lead me 'cause I can't do this alone
Lord, please help us lead and show others your love!
Teaching Tuesday
I have to admit that I am behind in my EFM readings. :-( I will catch up this week. We have two weeks off for the holidays, but I want to read the two books below during that time! Here is our holiday reading list! Please remember I haven't read them yet so review them on Amazon.com or the book store before you purchase or borrow.
The Prayer that God Prays by Jim Rosemergy This is ia book about prayer and about the variety of forms and styles of prayer. A new friend recommended it to me.
My Utmost of His Highest by Oswald Chambers This is supposed to be a Christian classic. I am looking forward to reading it.

We too can know this God and be assured of His presence. He has revealed Himself in His creation and in His Word. As we ask Him to make Himself known to us, we’ll learn that He is even more than the owner and creator of everything! - Our Daily Bread web site
