The present of presence

Our Daily Bread
I have had several classes over the years where the most important rule is to "be present".  What does that mean?  In this age of cell phones, tablets, laptops, social media and working too much, it is easy to be distracted (and distracting) when trying to discuss important topics or concepts.  I am sort of a phone junkie, so disconnecting can be hard for me!  DOH!

During this time of Christmas, we celebrate God being present with us in the form of the Christ child.  The angels sang about it.  The shepherds were amazed. The wise men followed the unusual star to find him.  The asses and oxen laid low.  What an unexpected, yet amazing entry into the world for the King of Kings!  Let us remember this remarkable event as we sit in our warm homes with bright lights and gifts.  Let us prepare our hearts as we celebrate the birth of our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, we love you and praise you for becoming God in man.

Movie Monday
I saw the movie American Hustle yesterday afternoon.  It was a surprisingly good movie.  I thought the cast and the acting was the best I have seen in a while.  The basic plot is about some con men who get caught by the FBI, then get roped into an ever escalating plan to trap politicians and mobsters during the building of the New Jersey gambling boom.  Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale reinforce how good their are at their craft.  Jeremy Renner shows he can be more than an action hero.  Pretty amazing stuff!

I give this movie four bear paws.  It is worth seeing in the theater, even at full price.
