Simply Saturday
I have some thoughts to share after an experience this week. Here is goes.It seems like we have this two step process that we go through in life. First, there is knowing self. Learning, growing, figuring out what we can do and not do, stuff like that. We have ourselves and our needs in our main focus. I hope we all learn to love ourselves.
Second is the knowing others. We learn about other folks, what we can do for them, what they can do for us, and how they affect our lives. Learning about others is tricky at times. I have a joke with friends when one of us share too much "TMI, TMI" Too much information! LOL How much is too much? It depends on the person and how close your friendship is (or how close the friendship is becoming). The feelings for the person also depends on the closeness of the friendship or other factors in the relationship.
Becoming a Christian adds a third component. Loving others as we love ourselves. Loving others as Christ loves them. It is not a natural thing. It is not automatic for humans. We ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with love for others. God can and will help us. In my experience, loving others is the most important thing we can develop from our relationship with. In learning to love others, we learn how to better love ourselves and our Lord.
May the Lord be with us!
