Finding God

Our Daily Bread
I love the stories in the Old Testament even though many of my friends discount the value of the Old Testament today.  "It is so hard to read".  "The New Testament means so much more".  I respect their opinion, but the stories in the devotional today are two of my reasons for liking the OT so much!

Jacob and Samuel had some things in common.  Their parents instilled in them a love for the God of Israel.  They taught them that God was always with them.  They listened to God and obeyed (most of the time).  They continued on the traditions of "God being with them" to their friends and families.  Very cool!

How could this possibly speak to us today?  I believe in the same ways that God spoke to them thousands of years ago.  We can help instill a love for God in our friends and families.  We can trust that God is always with us.  We can listen to God and obey.  We can continue on these traditions for future generations!

Lord, thank you for showing us some of history you have with the human race you created through the Old Testament.  Please help us to live that relationship with you today!

Wellness Wednesday
Vacation wellness tips
You may have heard me talk about being on vacation this week.  I know I talked about it enough and have been posting pictures on Facebook!  Here are some wellness tips I learned (and am learning) for vacations.

1. Try to eat and drink responsibly.  Yes, you are on vacation from work, but you are not on vacation from wellness.  Have fun, eat some good food, and drink some fun drinks.  Remember "if I eat like crap, I feel like crap".  You don't want to feel like crap on your vacation!  I find I can eat crazy for a few days or maybe on meal a day, but I need to stay focused on eating well so I can feel good.
2. Exercise.  You don't have to go to the gym every day while on vacation, but be sure to exercise in one way or another.  Sitting by the pool drinking Maitais will not help you attain your wellness goals!  Mixing a healthy balance of relaxing for mental wellness and staying active to maintain physical wellness is important.
3. Don't worry about the little stuff.  Like real life back at home, try not to worry about the little stuff while on vacation.  It can be stressful trying to have a good time!  Doing too much can be stressful and negatively affect your wellness.
4. Make the most of it.  I am making the most of my vacation this week!  Am I doing all the things I think I want to do?  No.  I am finding balance between activity and rest and relaxation.  Finding balance on vacation is just as important as finding it in real life!Have a great time on your vacation!

Let go, my friends!  God will catch you and hold you in his loving arms!
