Holy Week - Day 1

Our Daily Bread
I usually have mixed emotions during Holy Week.  There are so many church services and times to sing.  There are so many "down" times while we learn about how Christ was treated by the world and his own disciples.  There are so many "up" times when we talk about the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and ultimately on Easter Sunday.  What a spiritual and emotional roller coaster!

For me, the bottom line of the whole week is summed up in the devotional: what can I give him?  Jesus gave all for us.  Whether he asks us to give up our stuff or give up our money or our time or whatever we need to give up to serve him better, we need to be willing as our example was willing to do for God. Pray.  Listen.  Obey with a cheerful heart for the privilege to serve the Almighty God.

Lord, thank you for your ultimate sacrifice.  Please help us be willing to sacrifice anything for you.

Psalm Sunday
Psalm 87 is a nice praise psalm.  It is a little unusual as the nations other than Israel acknowledge the one true God, YAWH.  Very cool.

Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

1 He has founded his city on the holy mountain.
2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are said of you,
    city of God:
4 “I will record Rahab and Babylon
    among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush—
and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”
5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her,
and the Most High himself will establish her.”
6 The Lord will write in the register of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.”
7 As they make music they will sing,
“All my fountains are in you.”
